Game On!

As soon as we saw the table tennis set on one of the stalls at last Saturday's Marsh Barton antiques fair we just knew we had to buy it.

We got even more excited when we got it home and had a proper look at it. The set's complete with 4 bats and ping pong balls, the net's in perfect condition and it comes with clamps to fasten it to your dining room table. The whole thing’s housed in the original card box too! It's obviously been well loved and we reckon by the style of the font used on the front that it dates from the 1920/1930s.

Further proof of this is the little note book kept inside the box dating 1936 which was used to keep score and a couple of newspaper articles dating from the 1930s, it’s always good to have something to read in between matches.

Ping Pong, as Table Tennis was originally called, started life as a parlour game in homes around the start of the early 20th century. Fans of the game included Shirley Temple, Bob Marley (yes...really...of course he always used to win...One Love...oh dear), John Lennon, Bob Dylan and Forrest Gump. We love how stylish Table Tennis players (and everyone else for that matter) looked in the 1920s and 1930s.

Our Table Tennis set's for sale for £25 and will be one of the items on our stall when the Dawlish Antiques and Vintage Fairs restart on Saturday 16th March at the Strand Centre in Dawlish. If you can't wait till then for a game of Ping Pong though please message us through our Old's Cool Traders Facebook page or via oldscooltraders@gmail.com
