Waistcoat Love!

One of our upcycled waistcoats
Now the weather's turning and you can feel autumn in the air it's time to start thinking about ditching the summer dresses and shorts and t-shirts and sorting out our wardrobe for the colder months (we know...it only seems like 5 minutes ago that we still had the heating on!).

One very important way we do this at Old's Cool Traders is by delving into our waistcoat collection. Although they've become even more popular recently due to Peaky Blinders and the 'Southgate effect' we've been buying and wearing them for years.

We love to upcycle them with vintage buttons and military badges, love wearing the more traditional styles - single breasted (worn with the bottom button undone of course!) and double breasted and love finding the more unusual ones. We'll have more wonderful waistcoats for sale at our next fair on 21 September but please get in touch beforehand if you're looking for something particular and we'll check our stock for you.

'Bank' you very much!

Our very busy fair
What a beautiful Bank Holiday, 3 days of wall to wall Mediterranean sunshine. Thankfully it didn't stop people coming to the Antiques and Vintage Fair though, in fact lots of customers came in to get out of the heat!

Lovely stall holder - Colin
Our biggest sellers of the day were our waistcoats. Thanks to Gareth Southgate, Waistcoat Wednesday and Peaky Blinders demand's shot up. We've always loved them and think every discerning gentleman/lady should have at least one in his/her wardrobe. Some of the waistcoats we sold were our more traditional ones, others we'd upcycled with vintage buttons and military badges. They look great for all occasions with jeans or with a suit and we'll be bringing more waistcoats with us to our next fair on 21 September.

On Sunday we met with Alison who bought a gorgeous vintage Jane Shilton handbag which never been used and still had the original paper label attached. It transpired later on that Alison's ancestors owned a handbag manufacturer that ended up being bought out by Jane Shilton! Then on Monday we met with Pauline who bought a lovely vintage Accurist mens watch for her husband after visiting our stall on Saturday. Huge thanks to both of them and everyone who came along to the fair on Saturday.

Our next fair's on Saturday 21st September but if you're looking for something particular please just get in touch. The Old's Cool Traders team are always on the hunt!

Bank Holiday Bargains!

Hooray! The fair is on this Saturday!

Wow! We really are spoiling you this Bank Holiday Saturday (August 24th).

Not only is the Antiques and Vintage Fair on at the Strand Centre (Dawlish) but the Old's Cool Traders team have a summer sale with a selection of vintage clothing and handbags for sale at just £5 each! We may even throw in a bundle deal if the sun's shining.

The other great news is that there'll be some new faces amongst our very friendly regular stallholders too, it's still FREE entry and once you've shopped til you drop you can enjoy a cuppa tea and a slice of cake (or two) at the cafe.

Teignmouth Retail Therapy!

Our two favourite things - vinyl and cider!

We spent Saturday afternoon in Teignmouth and had an excellent time.  It was good to have a relaxing afternoon especially as the morning had included a visit to Totnes and Newton Abbot!

Popping into Joli Brise for Spoony's Cider Festival and quenching our thirst with a couple of very refreshing ciders 'Bush Pig' and Saxbys, we then trawled  Teignmouth's charity shops . Along the way we bought a very pretty 80s flowery blouse and some cool CDs including Bjork's 1993 album Debut.

Sound Preservation Society Records

We haven't been able to visit Sound Preservation Society Records as often as we would like to recently  so it was great to have the chance to spend time rummaging through the wide selection of great vinyl for sale.  The owner Matt is always very friendly and helpful and his music knowledge is hard to beat. We could easily spend a whole day in there. We bought an eclectic range of records everything from the Black and White album by The Stranglers to a 12inch promo by reggae band Black Uhuru to female hip hop band Salt n Pepa's (remember them from the 80s) first album.  Matt's prices are very sensible and we both left with big smiles on our faces. Cheers Matt, we can't wait for our next visit.  You can find Sound Preservation Society Records at 2Fore Street in Teignmouth.

Bella's Emporium

Another one of our favourite shops in Teignmouth is Bella's Emporium at 14 Regent Street. The shop is so beautifully stocked and there's so many pretty things to look at. As we were already laden down with vinyl and our charity shop finds unfortunately we weren't able to carry the art nouveau stained class cupboard home which we eyed up on the train home. Bella's Emporium is the perfect place to look for unique items for your home and should be in every interior designer's contact book. We had a lovely chat with co-owner Keith and he very kindly took some flyers for our fairs. Don't forget the next one is on Saturday 24th August.

All in all Teignmouth was a great place to end a very busy day!

Out and Newton Abbo(u)t!

Braces on and ready to go!

It seemed like ages since we last went to the Newton Abbot antiques fair and when we got up bright and early on Saturday morning we realised the last one we'd been to was the middle of May!

Our love of 78s

The sunshine was out so we were hoping that they'd be lots of dealers outside and there were. In fact the outside area was full with loads of pickings to be had.

We bought a very cool vintage Polaroid camera still in its original box and with its original manual, a very pretty Japonais vintage handbag, jazz and blues 78s  and some very pretty marcasite brooches. All of these items will be available to buy from our future fairs of course and the next one's on Saturday 24 August...not long now folks!

Vintage NHS glasses, Steamboat Willie vintage cap and vintage Japonais handbag

After a leisurely wander around the fair talking to all the stall holders, some of whom sell at the Dawlish fair (yeah!), we wandered into Newton Abbot for the Cider Festival at Spoons and a quick whizz round the charity shops.  The pickings weren't as great from the chazzas but we did buy a smart Paul Smith pink shirt.

Sunday was a much quieter day and in the afternoon a VIP visited us as she wanted something new to wear for the Dawlish Carnival which is taking place in a couple of weeks time. Two jackets, one dress and a handbag later she was a very happy customer!
