Rain rain go away!

Waiting for the train to take us to Newton Abbot Antiques Fair

Got up bright and breezy on Saturday, excited about going to Newton Abbot antiques fair. The sun was shining and it felt warm for a January morning.
Vintage Costume Jewellery - all for sale!
The fair was a little quieter than usual, then again it is early in the Antiques Fair calendar, but we got some good pickings including a very stylish vintage Sterling Silver Dachshund brooch, a pretty hedgehog brooch, an art deco style perfume bottle (complete with some art deco perfume in it) and some costume jewellery including lovely long strands of fake pearls.
Vintage hedgehog brooch - can be yours for £10 only!

Once we'd been round the fair a couple times we decided to walk into Newton Abbot which was when it decided to pour down with rain.

Vintage Stratton Lipstick holder - £12 only!

We took shelter in Spooneys (of course!) but it did put a bit of a dampener on our shopping spree. Oh well. Fortunately the Newton Abbot shopping fairy must have felt sorry for us and we managed to pick up a couple of vintage handbags, a gentleman's dressing gown and a deer stalker hat!

1920s handbag (£10 to buy) meets 1960s handbag (£12 to buy)

All in all not the easiest shopping trip we've had but we still managed to find some great items which will be up for sale (unless they've already gone of course...give us a shout if anything takes your fancy) when the Dawlish Antiques and Vintage fairs start again on March 16th.
Successful shopping trip!

PS: The flyers for the fairs are due to arrive from the printers this week and we'll be distributing them across the world...well, South Devon at least...so keep your eyes open for them!

Vintage Treasure

It's the first Newton Abbot antiques fair of 2019 tomorrow so it'll be an early start to get to the fair and fingers crossed we find lots of lovely vintage treasure.

We've been going to the antiques fair at the Newton Abbot Racecourse since we moved to Dawlish in January 2016 and over the last two years we've rarely been disappointed.

There's a wide variety of different stallholders selling everything from 1970s Roy of the Rovers annuals to high end antiques and there always something to buy for all vintage and antique lovers.

We particularly like the fair in the summertime when it attracts more dealers to have stalls outside. Best of all is the fact that all year round the fair's free to get into!

We hope we come back with lots of vintage goodies, we'll let you know how we got on!

The countdown has begun!

The countdown has begun......the first Dawlish Antiques and Vintage fair on Saturday 16 March 2019, is just over 6 weeks away and we can't wait!

We're waiting for the flyers to come back from the printers and we've just had our banners designed by Chris Cook of Mother Brown Design. We think they look fantastic, thanks so much Chris.

Please remember to put 16 March 2019 in your diaries, the Strand Centre in Dawlish will be in vintage heaven!

Read all about it...our latest ‘shoes’!

We love it when the weather forecast gets it wrong! We were all prepared to brave the wet and cold but were very pleasantly surprised when Saturday was warm (for January!) and dry. Double bonus! So with the sun shining we decided to walk the 6 mile return trip from Dawlish to Teignmouth taking in all the scenic sights, everywhere looked so pretty.

Our Saturday hunting spree was a great success and we came back with a 1920s style black velvet diamante clasped handbag and a black hussar style ladies cummerbund belt.

The find of the day was definitely a fabulous pair of LK Bennett two tone 1940s style ladies shoes though. They’d look fantastic with a vintage tea dress and would fit in perfectly at Goodwood Revival. Ok, LK Bennett's not strictly vintage but this high fashion company’s been open for almost 30 years now and their shoes, many of which hark back to a more glamorous time, have graced the feet of many stylish women.

The shoes are in nearly new condition, size 39(UK size 6, we wish our feet were smaller!) and looking at their soles we can definitely say they've only been worn once or twice. LK Bennett shoes normally retail at £195 but we've got ours for sale for just £40!  Please get in touch quick though...you need these shoes in your life.

Snooze will be no LK Bennett shoes!

Game On!

As soon as we saw the table tennis set on one of the stalls at last Saturday's Marsh Barton antiques fair we just knew we had to buy it.

We got even more excited when we got it home and had a proper look at it. The set's complete with 4 bats and ping pong balls, the net's in perfect condition and it comes with clamps to fasten it to your dining room table. The whole thing’s housed in the original card box too! It's obviously been well loved and we reckon by the style of the font used on the front that it dates from the 1920/1930s.

Further proof of this is the little note book kept inside the box dating 1936 which was used to keep score and a couple of newspaper articles dating from the 1930s, it’s always good to have something to read in between matches.

Ping Pong, as Table Tennis was originally called, started life as a parlour game in homes around the start of the early 20th century. Fans of the game included Shirley Temple, Bob Marley (yes...really...of course he always used to win...One Love...oh dear), John Lennon, Bob Dylan and Forrest Gump. We love how stylish Table Tennis players (and everyone else for that matter) looked in the 1920s and 1930s.

Our Table Tennis set's for sale for £25 and will be one of the items on our stall when the Dawlish Antiques and Vintage Fairs restart on Saturday 16th March at the Strand Centre in Dawlish. If you can't wait till then for a game of Ping Pong though please message us through our Old's Cool Traders Facebook page or via oldscooltraders@gmail.com
